Christmas at K O’Connells Fish
Christmas just would not be Christmas without a visit to the English Market and K O'Connells Fish. The hustle and bustle, the smells, spiced beef, the characters, the banter, the feathered fowl hanging New York dressed, the fish counter straining under the weight of Dublin Bay Prawns, there really is no comparison. And Christmas favourites are something we specialise in, the Smoked Salmon, Oysters are always up there, and a crab starter is a must for some!' says Pat O'Connell of K O'Connell Fish Merchants. 'Over the years we have added an international flavour too' added Pat, 'carp is of coarse really popular with people of Polish and Eastern European extraction, indeed it seems as much a part of the Polish and other Eastern Europeans Christmas tradition as turkey is ours, we have a super selection of these fish on offer. We have our own Oak Smoked Salmon, so succulent, ready sliced for you to just place on a good brown bread, twist of black pepper and a squeeze of lemon - as a starter of hors d'oeuvre, simple and straight forward. Our crab meat is the same, it needs so little work, a little mayonnaise, black pepper and lemon on a bed of lettuce with a few cherry tomatoes and a nice vinaigrette, a Christmas day starter to impress!' 'Sweet Scallops and Capers, Dublin Bay Prawns hot or cold with a really quick rose marie sauce, the list is endless', says Pat.
